SECOND-RATE HORN PLAYER STRIKES MORE THAN A CHORD WITH HIS SAX

PHILADELPHIA (Philadelphia Inquirer) -- After years of combatting his musical illness, the pent up rage in this quiet yet strange musician apparently reared its ugly head in a largely witnessed incident at an afterhours club in Center City Philadelphia. Band members had no idea why the saxophonist suddenly jumped off the stage in the middle of their third set late Friday night and began pummeling crowd members with the bell of his instrument. The musician was seen grabbing drinks away from audience members, pouring them into his saxophone, and unsuccessfully attempting to drink out of it. He was also heard chanting into his instrument, "Sax-a-ma-phone... sax-a-ma-phone...", to the tune of Beethoven's 5th. Some audience members laughed, thinking it was all part of the show, but it was no laughing matter when the musician finally tossed his saxophone in the air, hooting wildly like a monkey, and proceeded to run head-first into the brass rail of the bar. The saxophonist is presently under observation at the University of Pennsylvania hospital in University City. His name has not yet been released by police.
